REVIEW:

This has been a highly anticipated release and I'm happy to share that it has been worth the wait!  What is wonderfully captured on tape and beautifully packaged here is Prince just getting his Musicology Tour in about second gear for the folks of San Francisco on his 2nd night at The Fillmore.

There is lots of jamming, teasing and of course an array of music styles layered carefully and strategically throughout the set.  Great stuff.  But I cannot help but feel that your missing half of the performance because he is such a visual performer too.  That's a whole 'nother thing for discussion so I'll keep the comments here to this excellent double-disc set from Aural Delights.

The core material is of course from the show on February 15th, which comprises 1-and-a-half discs of the 2.  A couple of tracks from the previous night at The Fillmore are added as bonus tracks and they are great, particularly "Down By The Riverside".  This will be the must-have title for those who want a solid document from early in the tour.  But EVERY Prince fan will need to pick up this set for the  bonus Musicology Release Party bonus tracks tacked onto the end of Disc 2!  Now, THIS is must-have stuff!  Held a couple of months later than the other recordings, the man is in tip-top form and in the most personable mood onstage at Webster Hall, it's absolutely incredible.  You can actually hear James Brown, Little Richard with a touch of Springsteen in the performance!...yes, you heard me correctly.  The man talks to the crowd in such an intimate way and then, the response!  Wow, very cool to sit and listen to this part of the set.  You just have to hear it to believe it.  This recording sounds like it may have been taken from a digital satellite feed as it is professionally recorded and mixed.  It is so clean and full, you couldn't ask for a better sound.

The liner notes talk about the fact that Prince came onstage around 12:30 am that night of the 15th, and seemingly could have played all night..which he has been known to do!  The notes are a good read and add to the listening experience for the collector.  It doesn't site the source of the notes or who wrote them, but they are nice insights to the circus happenings that evening and the mood.

Franciscology is a great name for superb double picture-disc set from one of the greatest contemporary entertainers to ever grace the stage.

The best toys are the ones that are both educational and multi-purposeful.
