REVIEW:
On October 13, 1979, three things happened in North America: there was a conference on "Ritual Human Sacrifice in Mesoamerica" held at Dumbarton Oaks, CA; a separate conference on "Calcium Ion Antagonists in Cardiovascular Disease" in Toronto; and a Ramones concert held at Northwester U's Cahn Auditorium in Evanston, IL. Whether or not these three seemingly unrelated events are connected, only time will reveal. But since you're perusing a music site, you probably want to know something about the latter occurrence. Okay: Ramones. Second lineup (Marky having replaced drummer Tommy a year earlier). Still touring behind Road To Ruin - although in the UK the double LP It's Alive (recorded while Tommy was in the band) had just been issued. 30 songs in just over an hour. Da brudders still in their prime. 'Nuf said. Soundwise, it's a very good FM broadcast, with super-clean vocals and guitar; the bass doesn't jump out at you, but is adequate; and the drums fare the poorest, with a slight cardboard quality, due, most likely, to compression on the original broadcast. Livewire is a pro-CD-R label (lord knows from where, although there's a funny copyright legend below the barcode that says "2003 Good Music UK") and includes full-color, slick-stock photocopy artwork. Nothing fancy, but decent enough. Points deducted, however, for a couple of misspellings in the tracklistings ("Chinese Rockers," for example) and for using a photo of a band lineup not the same as the one which actually played the concert.
