REVIEW:

Amsterdamed comes from the short Real Gone tour of Europe soon after the album's October 3rd release.  It began on November 13th in Belgium and ended on November 23rd at the Carling Apollo Hammersmith in London.  This show is the third of three shows at the Carre in Amsterdam and the penultimate show from this short tour.  This is an excellent professional recording which was broadcast on Radio 1 on August 24th, 2005.  There is no evidence of it begin sourced from radio and is free from static, interference and station IDs.  The mix between the instruments and audience is very good with the only slight concern is the low mix of the vocals against the instruments.  The music is very drum and rhythm heavy and it sometimes becomes hard to follow Wait's booze soaked croaking, but that is his intended effect.  The first half of the show is dominated by numbers from the new album with "Hoist That Rag", "Make It Rain", "Don't Go Into That Barn", "Sins Of The Father" coming in quick succession.  "Shake It", also from Real Gone, closes the set.  The only older track in the first part of the show is the excellent "Jockey Full Of Bourbon" from 1985's Rain Dogs The tape preserves the full audience reactions following the final song of the set and Waits rewards the them with four encores.  This comes packaged in a double slimline jewel case with a photo on the front cover from the actual gig.  Wait's music can be difficult to phantom, but for his fans and collectors this is another worthy release on The Swingin' Pig label.
