REVIEW:

Waiting for the 30th Year Anniversary official release (wishful thinking) we are now reviewing yet another version of this fantastic jam that happened in late November 1981 during a night off from the Stones stop at Chicago. At Buddy Guy's Checkerboard Lounge Muddy Waters and his band were playing their set when most of the Stones (minus Wyman that allegedly stayed in his hotel room working on his computer) and their entourage (B.Keys,Stu,Ian McLagan) showed up at the club to eyewitness the master’s performance. It is hard to say unexpected, since here we get glimpses of their arrival from outside the Lounge; anyway after awhile it is Muddy himself that calls on stage at first Mick Jagger, then Keith Richards, then Ron Wood all literally walking on tables to reach the stage and they perform some of Waters blues classics. During "Mannish Boy" Buddy Guy,Junior Wells and Lefty Dizz all join in and the jam goes on with Stu playing piano from "Got My Mojo Working" on. Footage is pro shot, multicamera with lots of close ups too and this version is one of the cleanest and longest available. The 10 seconds blank screen right in the middle of  "Talking About My Woman" has been edited out, but this release is certainly an improvement over previous ones, the image is sufficiently clear and in colour to appreciate this historic event (not the only time a jam like that happened since it already happened in 78). After another instrumental version of "Baby Please Don t Go" by Lefty Dizz Muddy Waters comes back to the stage with "Clouds In My Heart" with a great solo by Keith Richards soon followed by Ron Wood on slide; right after Jagger comes back for "Champagne And Reefer". After that there is one more jam by Muddy's band and then we get different angle versions of the songs from "Mannish Boy" through "Champagne And Reefer".
