The Jack Bruce Band was the first venture former Stones Mick Taylor joined after leaving the band in December 1974; the band assembled and soon toured Europe in the spring of 1975 despite having no studio album to promote. This release presents the stop in Gothenburg, Sweden in mid May 1975. This concert already came out as The Weird of Hermiston in the late 90s (though with wrong date listed) as a single silver disc and as Carla, Bass & Drums on a double cdr with a bonus interview. Later it was released as Pieces of Mind (Gypsy Eye Project 185) again on a 2 cdr. This recording comes from a Sverige Radio broadcast is a bit hissy but substantially good showing a great combination of talent that unfortunately were never able to properly record a studio album but proved live to be an interesting combo. The songs are pretty similar with lots of room for Carla Bley’s keyboards and Mick Taylor’s guitar embroidering throughout with a particular mention for Tickets To The Waterfall than clocks in at over 18 minutes. Most songs though come from Jack Bruce albums, Out of the Storm from Songs for a Tailor, Morning Story and Post War from Harmony Row, Without a Word will be published on How’s Tricks (note that in April 2003 a studio version featuring Taylor that was released as bonus track, the only studio track recorded by the band on 28 November 1974 at Scorpio Sound in London. Out in the Fields is from Why Dontcha, the album Brice recorded with Leslie West and Corky Lang, while Sunshine of Your Love is from Cream’s Disraeli Gears.
