Tumblin’ Dice was the
name of the band that Mick Taylor toured with mainly in the South of the States
in 1992 - 1993.
This group also included the legendary Bobby Keys and sometimes the late
great Nicky Hopkins or from the X-Pensive Winos Ivan Neville in its line-up.
For this gig the l
ine-up consisted of: Mick Taylor on guitar and vocals, Babi Floyd on
vocals, Bobby Keys on sax, Ivan Neville on keyboards and vocals, Michael
Neville on bass, Adolfo ‘Fofi’ Lancha on drums, plus a guest sax player called
Charlie on the last track Dust My Blues (who might be Charles Neville).
This
recording is a new discovery in fact the previously available recording was
incomplete and lossy. However, we now have this new version, which is a
high-quality soundboard that has just been reworked a bit, notably improving its
phase.
In particular Boogie Man was probably not the first track: in the intro, Taylor
said: “This next song is a
Freddie King song…” -this indicate that this song was not the first from this
set. The Unidentified Instrumental was also called BK Blues, meaning Bobby Keys.
Jumpin’ Jack Flash was probably the last song of the first set because in the
intro and outro Taylor said: ”I think you’ll all recognize this one. This is
our last stuff…” and in the outro: “We’re taking a short break and we will
right back.”, here some sound intensity flaws have been fixed. On Dust My Broom,
in the intro Bobby Keys introduces a guest on saxophone ‘Charlie’ which might
be Charles Neville.
