REVIEW: |
New Barbarians recordings are
rare to appear these days, although it must be said that this was not a great
recording to start with, however through the usual stuff it has been bettered,
it is anyway the very first complete document of this concert in good quality
to come out.
Some tracks,
from Mystifies Me through I Can Feel The Fire are said to come from this show
and were released on Live at L.A. Forum 1979 (The Swinging Pig TSP CD 204) in
soundboard mono, but actually come from Cincinnati May 3rd show,.
Here are Jems liner notes: JEMS is pleased to once again collaborate with
Captain Acid on another vintage recording, this time what we believe to be a
previously uncirculated recording of the Rolling Stones side project, the New
Barbarians.
The short-lived line-up mounted one U.S. tour in 1979 performing a lot of
material from Ron Wood s solo album Gimme Some Neck, Keith Richards solo tunes
and a few Stones classics. JEMS pal RG made a point of renting the best gear he
could at the time to tape the show and while his recording would rate somewhere
below excellent, it is substantially better than the recording of the show that
has been in circulation for ages. This is the first time RG s master tapes have
been properly digitized. Captain Acid did his usual fine tuning and we hope the
result is a special treat for Stones fans.
Recordings of the New Barbarians
stop at Inglewood s Forum did circulate in the past, but in quite poor quality,
so this release presents a listenable document of the gig, unfortunately in
mono. It must be added that at the end of the concert Billy Preston joined the
band on stage.
