The review

This new combo set just released presents two Proshot concerts of the great late Bo Diddley who recently passed away, together with Ronnie Wood after their world Tour from over 20 years ago. The first one comes from Shibuya Inn in Tokyo and was recorded by Japan radio that broadcast it 10 days after the event. The recording is superb, not only a soundboard but a live mixed album that could easily have been released officially had they not opted for Live at Ritz; but the performance is excellent too with lots of room for Ron Wood's great slide, especially during his solo spot where at the end of of "Little Red Rooster" he says 'Regards from the rest of the Stones' to the Japanese audience. The bonus (picture)   disc holds the second show from Tokyo 88 that was recorded for Super Live and broadcasted in early summer in Japan and is presented with nice pictures, held in a single CD slimcase. The show is longer and interspersed with short interviews of Bo and Ron. Both concerts have Bo Diddley's band start, then Bo himself comes in and plays some of his hits, then it is Ron Wood to show up accompanying him; in the middle of the show there is a medley of Faces/solo recordings played only by Wood and then when Bo comes back for the grande finale. Backed by Debby Hastings on bass, Jim Satten on guitar and Mike Fink on drums and Hal Goldstein on keyboards and harmonica. Bo Diddley s band is an honest ensemble that helped him recreate his famous rhythm live as this couple of broadcasts show, celebrating the great man s legacy. This version is slightly better than the recently reviewed The Gunslingers Tour DVD, the picture being more colourful and the audio presented in immaculate stereo. The TV show ends with a backstage scene of Bo Diddley entering Ron Wood's place partly dressed and the two mock a boxing fight before cracking up in laughter, a scene that was not on the other broadcast of this show.
