REVIEW:

This is yet another fine example how The Masters Of Beatles Essentials (MBE) Label continually reaffirms their name.  Every facet of this double DVD release covering The Beatles formative years is professionally assembled and presented with the avid collector in mind.  The quality throughout this production is of commercial quality, except all the little things are just right!  The clips are seemingly from master tape sources, and given the vast array of what is included - that's quite a feat.

I love this label and the labor of love brought to each project.  Here, it's exactly what the sub-title of the compilation describes:  The Early Beatles Video Collection - The Film And Television Appearances 1962-1963.  The clips and segments are presented in chronological order and as I have nagged on before, when this is the format you need to be prepared for quite a bit of repetitious material and this collection will test your patience quite a bit with the neverending renditions of "She Loves You" and "Twist And Shout".  But if you are really a Beatles fan at heart, it wouldn't phase you one bit.  And you wouldn't really seek this collection out if you weren't a hard core collector, just my opinion as this era is pre-Beatlemania and that is the earliest that any bandwagon jumpers would consider investing.  Regardless, this is a recommended set.

There are highlights throughout, the overlying one being the continuous level of quality from clip-to-clip which always amazes me in regards to bootleg collections of this type.  The home footage of the boys on holiday at the Jersey Channel shores in their color-differentiated striped swim "suits" is absolutely priceless but the most resounding memorable clip is of the infmaous Royal Variety performance from November '63 where the boys perform in front of the English royalty for the first time and before "Twist And Shout" John's humorous request for everyone to clap along and those in the balcony just "rattle your jewelry".  This is just fun and more essential documentation for your Beatles collection.  From Us To You indeed.  You know?...it actually feels that way too.  A very personal collection.

The best toys are the ones that are both educational and multi-purposeful.
