REVIEW: |
Volume Nine of this series brings us back to the Lone Star Café in New
York, this time in March 1989.
Line-up: Mick Taylor on guitar and vocals, Max
Middleton on keyboards, Shane Fontayne on guitar, Wilbur Bascomb on bass and Eric
Parker on drums. For this
show two recordings were already circulating one is high-pitched (hissy) and
compressed but with a very good quality of Mick Taylor’s voice. The other is
lossless but muddy and a little saturated. The Maidenlane
recording is interesting and is a good alternate recording to the already
circulating ones. As usual he tracks were edited, de-clicked and the recording amplified,
the channels rebalanced
and the speed corrected (decelerated by -3%).
Note a tape flip after Red House but
no music is lost. Yet again a great recording with extreme stereo separation that
documents this show at the Lone Star Café, one of Taylor’s preferred locations,
this time gracing it with excellent playing.
