REVIEW:

This set presents two famous rock festivals that ended the year 1969 in the States, the Palm Beach Festival, so called Woodstock South and the famous Altamont at the times known as Woodstock West that however soon lost such title. This is a copy of Altamont Free Concert 1969 (IMP N-030)   that came out in 2011 for Altamont 40th Anniversary and that presents on the first disc other bands stereo audience recordings, Disc Two and part of Disc Three the Stones performance from a 2 sources mix, then some tracks that come from a different source and ithers that have been broadcasted on radio taken from an audience source with the bonus of original taper explaining what happened when he was recording; this disc ends with Newsnight 69 a tv show of which is unfortunately only available its soundtrack that presented songs exercpts in soundboard mono, sadly all the soundboard recordings that have surfaced over the years have been overlooked, missing is also Midnight Rambler which just appeared after this set was released. Disc Four is the DVD included on Altamont 40th Anniversary called   Altamont Was The Nightmare (IMP N-030). It shows amateur 8 mm. grainy footage (few seconds) of CSNY and RS and the whole KRON-TV Newswatch radio report of the event while on screen there are photos of the event plus some footage from Gimme Shelter. Japanese subtitles can be removed as per on screen message; a missed opportunity is the far superior fans footage that has appeared on YT recently showing great looking footage before, during and after the concert.

The last 2 discs are another copy of an IMP release called Palm Beach 1969 Off Reels (IMP N-018) originally released in 2012, featuring various acts as well as the Stones that came on stage late at night, technically it was December 1st already. These recordings come from a number of 5” reels which unfortunately run at wrong speed, despite having been worked by the original label.

The best toys are the ones that are both educational and multi-purposeful.
