REVIEW: |
Bill Wyman’s
Rhythm Kings 2002 stop at the Leuciana Festival in Caserta is here documented,
the band’s line up consisted of: Bll Wyman on bass, Georgie Fame on keyboards
and vocals, Mike Sanchez on keyboards and vocals, Terry Taylor on guitar, dobro
and backing vocals, Albert Lee on guitar and vocals, Henry Spinetti on drums, Beverley
Skeete on vocals, Frank Mead on sax and percussions, Nick Payn on sax, flute and
harmonica. This was a fantastic show with a punchy band whose enthusiasm was
contagious; i
t made you feel like dancing (or at least tap
your foot throughout the show). There are 2 sources for this show, source
1 was an audience recording that was found that could can be upgraded, because there
were 2 seconds gaps between the tracks and some intermissions were lost. However
it was incomplete (61’) since 1 song and BW’s band introduction were missing. Then
another recording (source 2) was located, it was coming from Italian TV that
broadcasted he concert on RAI 2 and later on RAI 5. This has better sound, but was
also incomplete (55’) missing the show's introduction with the band
introduction and 3 other songs. Therefore it was decided to create a mix with
both sources to get a more complete (68’) and better quality recording. What is
strange about the broadcasted tracks is that the audience clapping is stereo,
while the band’s music in mono.
It must be noted that Hit The Road Jack starts with a short Under
My Thumb citation and later on Nick Payn plays a Paint it Black riff, on Anyway
The Wind Blows 2 gaps were deleted, one at 6’53 with a 2 seconds patch coming from
the previous verse. This is a nice job that presents a fun concert by the Rhythm
Kings, a band we regret is no more touring.
