REVIEW: |
This release
presents Bill Wyman s Rhythm Kings 1998 Cologne
concert.
It was a great
show, but the recording sound was saturated
in the bass frequencies. So a bass filter was used and the high frequencies increased
a little bit; also some digital noises at the beginning of Motorvatin Mama have
been deleted too.
The line-up
consisted of Bill Wyman on bass and vocals, Gary Brooker on piano and vocals, Georgie
Fame
on organ and vocals, Martin Taylor on
guitar, Albert Lee on guitar and bass, Graham Broad on drums, Beverley Skeete on
vocals, Frank Mead
on alto sax, flute,
harmonica, Nick Payn on tenor sax, flute, harmonica, Melanie Redmond and Keeley
Smith on backing vocals, it is important to notice the contribution of jazz
guitarist Martin Taylor, particularly on numbers like Spooky and
Walking One And Only.
where his jazz tinged solos are real
highlights . The 1998 Rhythm Kings Tour lasted a bit more than the 1997 one and
was done to promote the cd Anyway The Wind Blows released in late September of
that year. This recording is good especially after having been reworked, again
Bill s bass drives the sound
which is
excellent, but for the few initial seconds when it was too low. Ring My Bell is
another Bill Wyman/Terry Taylor composition, while Rockin
Pneumonia And The Boogie Woogie Flu will from
this show end up on Bootleg Kings Live in Europe
released in 2000.
It is quite
funny that on the Band Introduction Gary Brooker calls Bill Wyman Our Fuehrer,
correcting himself after getting booed and then Bill becomes Our Leader!
