The review

Anybody Wanna Swallow Me? is the newest release from the soundboard specialist label Audio Publisher.  AP have been in production for almost three years, yet they have produced only a handful of titles.  They find only the very best soundboard recordings and release very nice editions.  This is the first time this show has been released on a silver boot.

This Central Park occurs in the summer after Elvis Costello's reunion with The Attractions for the release of Brutal Youth.  This is a very long show, two hours long with eight encores.  The emphasis in the set is upon the newest LP with songs like "Pony Street" and "London's Brilliant Parade".  The newer material is very clever with interesting lyrics, but they are very laid back and mellow.  That can be said for the entire concert.  An attendee observed that the show never ignited the audience who were very subdued.  That is very apparent on this recording where the audience is almost non-existent.

There is a nod to his punk roots with the "Pump It Up", the final song of the evening.  But it sounds as if the show never really takes off and maintains a coolness that is hard to understand.  The recording is excellent sounding, however, and a good release to pick up.
