The review
From the never-ending Master Of Puppets tour: Metallica strafed Europe, including this stop as headliners for a Holland festival. Note that this is not the complete show – according to www.metlive.com, missing are the following songs performed that day:
Ecstacy of Gold
Battery
Fade to Black
Seek & Destroy
Creeping Death
Fight Fire With Fire
The fan site additionally has a note that “Anthrax and Laaz Rokkit played ‘Blitzkrieg’ with Metallica,” but there’s no indication of that on the CD sleeve. One funny moment comes when the band goes into an impromptu version of the Vince Guaraldi "Peanuts" theme!
While a soundboard recording, it’s not a particularly enlightened one. James Hetfield’s guitar tends to dominate, and there’s virtually no bass audible! (Shades of the then-forthcoming album And Justice For All…) Hence my downgraded audio rating. The bonus tracks, apparently from a broadcast, are slightly better but are a tad on the crunchy side. Nice packaging though, Pablo always excelling in its 4-page booklets loaded with color pics. -- OSWALD
