The review
A pair of very nice sounding audience recordings can be found on this self-titled QOTSA release. Both are remarkably consistent in terms of the sound quality and the actual performances. Since the two shows are separated from one another by 14 months there are only a couple of setlist overlaps (notably the group’s bonafide “just say yes!” anthem “Feel Good Hit Of The Summer”). As these hailed from the period in time when the group’s star was in full ascendancy – erratic bassist Nick Oliveri had yet to be relieved of his duties as well – they also offer crucial snapshots of the band before leader Josh Homme had been fully crowned as rock royalty.
The artwork doesn’t look all that special, just a series of average live photos, but the 4-panel booklet does include a timeline for the band that throws out various highlights in the Queens’ career-to-date (it covers up through late 2000).
CONSUMER NOTE: The sleeve lists the venues/dates and the tracklisting but fails to indicate at which point the Nottingham show ends and the Weeze show begins; I’ve done my best to figure out the break point, but as the sound quality/”tone” is so similar throughout I may be slightly off. -- OSWALD
