Review: Rotterdam Night is maybe the best sounding of the recent spate of Crystal Cat titles. There are moments when you would swear it was a soundboard, particularly during the acoustic opening of "Countin' on a Miracle." At times, Bruce's voice gets buried somewhere inside Max's bass drum, but its all to great effect. The highlight is a solo piano version of "For You" that must be heard to be believed. Including perhaps Bruce's only recorded mention of Metallica, he launches into an acoustic guitar rendition of "The River" that is as right as it is ragged - just beautiful, really. Rotterdam sings along accordingly, somehow intensifying the song's lonely refrain. Don't miss this title! |
