REVIEW: |
This release
presents an unreleased studio tape featuring a jam session held in New York in
July 1969 with Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood, allegedly on the 15th-17th
of July 1969 during a break from the Jeff Beck Group 5th US tour
when the band finished its New York concerts, before they headed to Dania,
Florida where they would play on the 18th of July. They had already
been in the studio together in London in June working on Stewart’s first solo
album, so this fun jam proves once more the special bond between them; here
they play all guitars and percussions and both sing lead and backing vocals,
but we can also hear whistles and other various noises (even raspberries!) all
in perfect harmony while the two friends enjoyed their time. This could as well
have been the warm up of a proper session with more musically interesting tunes
that followed, but the tape gets interrupted after about 30 minutes; this recording
appeared in 2020 at first, but according to the label this is the master
soundboard tape.
