REVIEW:

This release presents the coupling of two performances that happened in the summer of 1968 by the Jeff Beck Group, the well known San Francisco set that has been part of many bootlegs and this New York recording   (1st or 2nd set unknown) which is new to me and presents some classic songs from the band s repertoire. First of all the sound quality is superb and the performances are both killer ones, it is a real pity that no comprehensive set of live performances from the early Jeff beck Group concerts has appeared officially, but thanks to bootleggers we can enjoy them anyhow even if Empress Valley title is said to have been released in scarce quantity. This version of the Jeff Beck Group had Mickey Waller on drums: after a powerful  You Shook Me another gem is Let Me Love You where the contrast between Stewart raspy vocals and Beck s electric punctuation is sharp and effective while Wood bass plays pretty melodic lines supported by Waller flashy drumming. This are very nice recording, originally from WNEW FM in New York and  KSAN FM in San Francisco, lately broadcasted by Wolfgang s Vault and the setlist is about the same on both concerts, too bad just these few New York tracks have surfaced, however this disc presents some high quality stuff that all rock collectors should enjoy. On the disc it irs written Disc 1, however this is a single disc release.
