REVIEW:

This digipack presents the Jeff Beck Group at its best, live performances that have come out over the years on many bootlegs that have been assembled here in this nice set. Sound output is really excellent and except for some tracks from 67 on Disc One and from 69 on all of Disc Four all the rest comes from the band s first US Tour from 68, arguably the best productive and creative times of this particular version of the band. Together with Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart and Ron Wood are here featured Micky Waller on drums and Nicky Hopkins on piano.   There are many concerts that have not been recorded and/or survived that could be amazing to hear like the June 18th 68 New York show at The Scene that featured Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton jamming (the former was a steady guests in the following 4 New York shows too) and of course it is a pity that nothing has ever been released officially. Apart from the BBC Transcription Discs many recordings come from radio broadcasts (like the 5 tracks on Disc One from KSAN in 72) and later from Wolfgang s Vault where they have been shared over the years, hopefully some more will come out in the future, as this seems the only source for such releases. The last disc has recordings from the band s 5th and last US Tour, unfortunately here another great show is missing from the day after the Laurel concert, where the band jammed at Flushing Meadow with three quarters of Led Zeppelin (minus John Paul Jones) and Carmine Appice. Talking about the Laurel recording it is amazing that the festival introduction is stereo, but the four songs are in mono, it seems there is more stuff hiding in some drawer.

Packaging is nice although there are some mistakes on sources and there is a funny note on the digipack back: 33 rpm Made and Printed in Great Britain, which shows they may have been taken from a vinyl source.
