REVIEW: |
The third
volume of this series covers the band’s Dallas show from July 68, the line-up
is the same though
.
Despite being called on some bootlegs a soundboard this is an excellent audience
recording which appeared on several underground releases: Dallas 1968 (Naughty
Dog), Miami August 1968 (no label), Tour De Force (GS 71768), Like a Hurricane
Primsoul Live Archives 1967-1968 (OPM 003-4), Miami 1968 and as shown it was
attributed either to Dallas or to Miami (16th November, but also
August). However,
Rice Pudding is announced here as Mother’s Old Rice Pudding and Rod Stewart
specifies that it is the first time ever that they will play this title live; we
can therefore conclude that the show happened before July 26th and
therefore eliminate the Miami date (of which it can be finally said there is no
recording).
From
the various versions the one chosen was Tour De Force (CS71768) because it has better
sound and the most complete recording. Both channels have been rebalanced and
refocused the recording was de-clicked and many micro-gaps between the tracks were
eliminated
. As previously said this is an excellent recording, many releases split
the songs in 2 different sets since there are no repetitions nor announcement
about being two different sets, though, the overall consensus being it was a
long, great concert.
