REVIEW: |
This
compilation that came out some time ago on a famous torrent site and at first
hearing it could seem it was been copied from WLT for its Lard Orders Please
compilation (which has an additional disc) recently already reviewed here. But
the original uploader seems to have gone through all of is Faces cds &
tapes, and bootlegs duplicate tracks to locate the best quality ones and after
making sure none were officially released, rework his project; some of these
come directly from BBC Transcription Discs> cassette> cd, thus at times some
vinyl clicks & pops can be heard. The goal was to locate the best quality
recordings out there and it musy be streesd it was achieved since this sounds
much better. The first thing noticed on Disc One is the version of Love In Vain
in great stereo which does not come from Top Gear 70 as indicated in the back
cover notes but most likely from April (or May) 1971; Wicked Messenger has
Brian Matthew introduction, he actually presented Top Of The Pops transcription
discs from which they were most likely taken.
The first 4
tracks on Disc Two are in much better quality (FM sourced) than the
corresponding tracks on Last Orders
Please, this may mean they chose the old version. The
last 4 tracks of Disc Two come from the same
concert, however they may be from a different broadcast since they are in mono
(contrary to the first four songs) and there are spoken words from the
programme host introducing songs. About track 3 that was in the original
version of this compilation (this has been reworked) Maybe I m Amazed it
actually came from 1971 and was the same as the one included on Five Guys Walk
Into A Bar, the official box set that came out in June 2004, this is why it has
been removed from the discs, although still present on the back cover listing. This
is an interesting compilation which although having no new song, presents all
tracks in the best quality, even better than
what was on silver discs on the market.
