REVIEW:

Alvin Lee and Mick Taylor's Euro tour opened in Italy on the 26th of October in Torino, then Firenze, Milano and Roma, touched Swiss,France and Germany (just two of the 9 scheduled dates were played) before ending in London. Few tapes have surfaced from this set of shows and now it is the time of a master audience tape coming from Milano's Palasport ; a soundboard recording surfaced last year and was released under the title of The Fabulous Jamming. The concert is basically an Alvin Lee set of songs that feature Taylor alongside Fuzzy Samuels on bass and Tom Compton on drums. There is not much space left after Lee's gymnastic on the frets but Taylor is able to spread his bluesy toned guitar that contrasts openly with Alvin flashy style. This is the whole show as "Love Like A Man", "Can't Stop" and "Just Another Boogie" are here, while they were missing on the soundboard tape. This is a unique opportunity for a good listen to this very weird incarnation of the Alvin Lee Band featuring another solo guitarist, blues inclined Mick Taylor, that most of the times plays second fiddle to fast rock and roll wizard Lee (that runs at speed neck breaking pace on numbers like "I'm Writing You A Letter") but occasionally steps out especially in slower tunes like "Slow Blues In C" or "Slow Down" A notable jam happens on track 8 with both guitar masters having their turn on solos as the drummer in the middle of the jam. Then there is a medley that gives the opportunity to appreciate the great rock blues   side of Lee's guitar style while the end of the concert is left to the muscular crescendo of his rock progression that leads to the inevitable Woodstock memory that is "I'm Going Home" which ends the set on a fast set of notes. On Disc two there are some more tracks, coming from Kiel 1981 concert that has recently surfaced, sourced from a broadcast on FM radio.
