The review

Alvin Lee and Mick Taylor’s stop in Philadelphia, PA is hereby documented, the show happened in early December 1981 before the US tour ended in Chicago on the 21st. The tour continued in 82 but withoutTaylor who had other commitments as he started touring again with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers in mid January 82. Few tapes have surfaced from this set of shows and this is an audience recording from the Spectrum where Taylor performed with the Stones 9 years before: this is a decent sounding recording but with a bit too much echo to be called a great one. The set list presents an Alvin Lee set of songs that feature Taylor alongside Fuzzy Samuels on bass and Tom Compton on drums. There is not much space left after Lee's gymnastic on the frets but Taylor is able to spread his bluesy toned guitar that contrasts openly with Alvin flashy style, especially on songs like "Slow Blues In C" and especially "Can ' Stop" which features a stunning solo by Taylor that brightened up the whole song. Unfortunately there has never been any official recording of this Beta version of the Alvin lee Band live and fans have to rely on underground records in order to appreciate this strange pair of lead guitarists joining forces on stage.
