REVIEW:

This release presents another concert from Alvin Lee and Mick Taylor, recorded in Paris in late 1981 at the end of the European Tour; the recording is great with a wide open stereo separation despite being an audience one. This concert has surfaced once on cd before, called Paris Pie and later as a cdr called Live At The Palace, although in mono but incomplete, missing    "Just Another Boogie" and the final jam with "Sweet Little Sixteen" and "Slow Down". This time the concert  is complete as what is missing on cover ("Scat Thing") is anyway here, just a bunch of seconds before "I'm Going Home"; as a bonus there is the inclusion of 6 more songs from a 1984 gig in Stuttgart (without Taylor). The “Encore Jam" at the end is just a rhythmic Diddley like thing where Lee and the audience exchange some   chanting before the very last number "Slow Down" which despite its title is the fastest tune played. This is anyway a great performance with Lee playing his most renowned licks and driving through his many hit songs at his characteristic speed; as for Taylor apart being mentioned some times by Alvin Lee is hard to hear his playing and it is understandable why he left after the short US Tour that followed the European one in December 1981. As for the bonus tracks (maybe played at the Hanns Martin Schleyer Halle) from Stuttgart in December 1984 they are coming from a soundboard source and obviously sound better showing Alvin Lee fast guitar approach in full, hardly changed by the presence of other side musicians. Apart from a 20 minutes long "Ain't Nothing Shakin" which is mostly a showcase for the drummer the best song here is a version of Jimi Hendrix "Hey Joe".

The best toys are the ones that are both educational and multi-purposeful.
