REVIEW: |
The second
concert at Paris Abattoirs has finally got a full audience recording in great
shape, this latest release is by far the best sounding document for this
concert, a very good audience tape for the times that has just surfaced; as a
bonus to the 16 bits version comes a remaster of the soundboard source which
consisted only of Disc One. The original upload was provided by BlueTurns2Gray in
24/48 bits and converted in FLAC for the 16 bits version.
The previous
release of this show was the strangely titled Avillon de Paris coming from Tarantura
(TCDRS 48 1/2) which could seem to be a copy of The Boulevard of Paris (DAC
158) that presented an updated version of the second Paris show the Stones
played in 1976 using a recent soundboard version that first appeared on YouTube
as soundtrack of an uploaded pro shot video on Disc One and the rest of the
concert on Disc Two in good audience quality. This recording however presents the
whole 1976 concert in audience mode. The band seems inspired even if there are
some mistakes here and there, but the overall feeling is one of complete
control of the performance. This concert was released as Aux Abattoirs (VGP 241)
and then on Exile a Paris (PGN 122) an 8 cdr set from Pignose with the other
Paris shows, replicated on silver in 2013 on Le Loups Dans L’ Abattoir (GR Box
20) that included all the 76 Paris concerts in a 8 cd box from Godfather
Records. Live in Paris (Goldplate GP 1501) presented a 2 DVDs-2 cds set
offering the whole concert of 6 June (on video too) and the soundboards tracks
from 5 June.
Honky Tonk
Women, You Gotta Move and Happy from this show have ended up on Love You Live,
while the former has also appeared on the Stones 50th Anniversary 2
cd set that came out in 2013. This release is certainly an improvement offering
for the first time the whole audience recording, though in mono. As a
bonus
we get the remaster of the
soundboard version that includes all 10 minutes plus of Drums Introduction, with
a patch in You Can’t Always Get What You Want; unfortunately for those wanting
to burn it and store it together with the other discs there is no suitable artwork
cover.
