REVIEW: |
The
Edinburgh show of the Stones 1982 European Tour was released on tape on Flowers
of Scotland and The Flower of Scotland. On cd it came out as Playhouse
28-5-1982 cdr, The Flower ‘O’ Scotland cdr , while on silver as The Flowers of
Scotland (Rattlesnake 0345) then as Baby Let’s Play House (VGP 257), Edinburgh
1982 (SODD 040-1), Stoned Issue Playhouse Theatre (Godfather 575-6) and as part
of European Tour 1982 + The complete Foxes in the Boxes (Fox Juice Rec.02)
massive 18 discs box. You Can’t Always Get What You Want can be found on
Frankfurt July 1, 1982 2cdr. This release presents a partial soundboard
recording for the first time, from the cassette owned by the sound engineer,
but also the audience version here appears to be better than before with the
left and right channel in the right order and not reversed as on the
Rattlesnake version. Moreover, it is possible to listen to Let Me Go completely
for the first time, including the full intro that was cut in the previous
sources. The Edinburgh soundboard recording has Wyman upfront and both guitars
pretty down, while on the audience recording Stu is in evidence especially on
songs like Chantilly Lace where his piano playing is upfront. Both guitars are
in shape and of course the sound benefits from their positive approach as heard
on an inspired version of Let It Bleed that ends Disc One. Disc Two offers,
after a great version of You Can’t Always Get What You Want and Little T&A
an impatient audience chanting when the Stones take their time before starting
Tumbling Dice. At the end of She’s So Cold Jagger says thanks to Glasgow, soon correcting
himself. The encore is Satisfaction and one of the few times Stu can be heard
on an audience recording of this song too.
