In 2003 the
Stones returned to Spain in late September, but for this show without Bobby
Keys; a
version of this show was circulating and it’s already been released for
Frankenstein Productions Volume 005. However, r
ecently some
excerpts from Spanish television reports have
been studied and a closer look at the origin of the audio recordings was done.
It was discovered that
t
he
first part was a fake and only starting with Tumbling Dice they were definitely
from Benidorm. Here's what was found:
Wrongly
dated & located:
Intro: from
Barcelona
Brown Sugar
:
from Barcelona
You Got Me
Rocking: from Barcelona
Don’t Stop:
from Barcelona
Miss You
:
is not an Iberian show: and stayed unidentified but it’s not Benidorm
because before the sax solo, Mick Jagger is saying ‘Alright Bobby… come on’
Ruby
Tuesday: from Toronto (30/07/2003) except the last minute coming from Barcelona
You Can’t
Always Get What You Want from Barcelona
Paint It
Black unidentified but the last 30 seconds are from Barcelona
Tumbling
Dice – part 1 (46 first seconds) from Barcelona
Jumping
Jack Flash – part 2 after 4’09 (more of 5 minutes coming from Barcelona). So,
here are
the Benidorm titles after slightly being improved compared to volume FP 005
(especially the phase). A little gap was found in the video source, so it was
decided to rebuild the song using both sources. In particular
Tumbling Dice fades in and
only the first part of Jumpin'
Jack Flash comes from Benidorm.
This part, until 4’09, has now being merged
with a video posted on YouTube which also has the 2nd part of the song
and the outro. It has been
decided to include several bonuses: these are
excerpts from reports from Spanish television: from
25th September
2003: Benidorm, Spain, Estadio Municipal
Foietes:
Brown Sugar (0’43) and Ruby
Tuesday (0’32) and from
29th September
2003: Zaragoza, Spain, Feria de Muestras You
Got Me Rocking (0’55) and Ruby Tuesday (2’29). Apart from the bonus tracks, this
is a good recording but many times with people around the taper talking over
songs (grrrrr!); however, nothing from this concert was known before, except
for fakes, so this is welcome.
