The review
There has recently been a notable bunch of releases with this name, first Cpt.Acid’s version, then a copy of that by EV in a better packaging, now it is Mayflower’s turn. The original unreleased album was planned as follow-up to Hot Rocks in 1972, but the project was cancelled due to disagreements between Andrew Oldham and Allen Klein about the eclectic tracks selection, which included controversial songs such as Andrew's Blues and Pay Your Dues (alternate version to Street Fighting Man). It was replaced with the more conservative double album called More Hot Rocks. Originally, the album was produced by Andrew Oldham; it was digitally remastered in 2002 from the original vinyl source and represents a faithful reproduction of the prototype concept and recording. This record is the precursor of the Black Box concept that was revived in 1975 and would ultimately culminate into Metamorphosis. A lot of thought was put into retrospective recordings by ABKCO in the early to mid-Seventies. The sound quality is indeed excellent for these studio recordings, some acetate surface noise is heard at intros & outros. However, it has been upgraded with clear stereo sound on many older outtakes that have surfaced over the years, such as Pay Your Dues. This release however has added bonus.
