The review

The Stones 1975 Tour stop in San Francisco, right after the week long seat in Los Angeles Forum, happened on July 15th & 16th : the first date has been covered on tape as Cow Palace 75, on vinyl as It’s Only Rock’n Roll (No Label TOTA 1975) a 3 lp coloured vinyl set followed by Sad Songs Is All I Know (Thrown Rec. C-TPSF) a double album with good audience recording, both incomplete recordings; then later on In Concert 1975 (Diamond Sounds 06) a double lps and single lp sets presented the whole concert. On compact was released The Complete Cow Palace Tapes 1975 (IMP 045-48) which had an incomplete set with both concerts with some cuts in the songs, later was put out It’s Only Rock and Roll TOTA 1975 (VGP 036-37) first as two single cds and then remastered as a double set and then came out first The Rock’n Roll Show (SOF 8003) a 2 cd set with just the 15th of July concert to be replicated in a 4 cd set called The Rock n Roll Show Never Ends (SOF 8004) adding the next day concert. Fingerprint File and Angie can be found on Live Rarities (RS 9201).. Few years ago came out You’ll Be Mine (Dasuje/NHK) presenting the full concert in excellent sound with most, but not all, songs that had in between dialogues although some were still missing, like Gimme Shelter, the 2nd part of You Gotta Move, It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll, Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo, That’s Life and Outta Space. It seemed that the original owner of the tape made these as markers or just didn’t want to release the full unedited version for whatever reason. After that was released Cow Palace 1975 (For Fans Only 005) that seemed to come from a master tape since the sound was so wide and full that resembled L.A. best ones, but that was a compilation of the best tracks from the first show and all in great shape. The label decided however to put it out in a cover that resembled too much the VGP one, compared to which this one’s output is far superior. In 2018 was released It’s Only Rock’n Roll (NB Label) 4 cds with both San Francisco 75 shows in great stereo audience, missing some parts patched from Sad Songs Is All I Know. After that came one of the best ever version of this show on Don’t Spurn Cow Palace 75 (Tarantura TCDRS 19-20) so far since the sound was full and stereo with all instruments clear and the audience not very noisy.

Subsequently was released Daly City (Jerkin Gherkin) a 2cdr set featuring Brad Blank’s recording from a 2nd generation cassette tape which is the same of this release, that presents a 2nd generation transfer of a master reel to reel recording same source of Sad Songs Is All I Know, the only missing part being the beginning of That’s Life. It is interesting to listen to this recording with all in between songs dialogues, in the Band Introductions for instance Jagger seemed genuinely confused about where they playing, asking the audience if they were in Oakland or San Francisco. Wild Horses introduction gives the name to this set, that is when Jagger presents the song with these words. The recording quality is consistent and it is a real pleasure to listen to it, packaging a bit too spartan though.
