REVIEW: |
This release
presents the Stones 2 concerts from Paris 1966; the 1st show came out
on vinyl on Play With Fire (TMOQ HHCER 108), Mick’s Birthday Party (TMQ 72017)
and on That’s How Strong My Love Is (OBR 93004), while on cd on Still I’m Gonna
Miss Tou (VGP 073), Play With Fire (VGP 286), Olympia Live in the Sixties
(Goldplate GP-1302 CD), one tack is available on Paris Match (DAC 007); this
recording has always been marred by a radio announcer talking over songs, especially
on The Last Time, Not Fade Away, I’m Moving On, Around And Around, I’m Alright
and songs like Play With Fire and Time Is On My Side have been edited and were
represented by a few seconds; this certainly has been the worst sounding
concert of the lot. The second 1966 concert can be found on vinyl on Lord Have
Mercy (Contra Band CBM 3948), At L’Olympia 1966 (Magic Dwarf Rec. MDR 3) and on
Let The Airwaves Flow: Live at Olympia 1965-66 (1960s Records R&B 29) while
on cd on: Play with Fire (VGP 286), Ready Steady Stones (VGP 248), Gods in
Olympia (TMOQ 02/004), Our Last Concert Ever (S.Morphine 57), Du Fond Du Coeur
(FF 01), 66 Route (Godfather Rec 262), Olympia Live in the Sixties (Goldplate
GP 1302 CD), Everlasting Tour 1966-67 (Eternal Grooves 0007), Fuckin’ And
Suckin’ (DAC190). As well known these sources are not that great sounding, the
label has cut off as much speech as possible from the radio broadcast and tried
to level the sound on the other one; at best it can be called listenable.
