REVIEW:

This release presents again the famous Hyde Park 69 concert, a concert that is still one of the main topics amongst Stones collectors. Let s remember which bootlegs have been released so far: on tape a recording appeared called An Afternoon with the Devil, then Stones in the Park and He Is Not Dead (All Sold Out); on vinyl in 1974 as Hyde Park July 69 (Contraband Cheese Rec. WEC 3689), in Japan in 1980 as Live at Hydepark (OG 504), In Concert 1969 (Diamond Sound DS 003),   Free concert at Hyde Park, Hyde Park England 1969 (MTR-2) which was a copy of Contraband LP, Hyde Park England 1969 (Moonchild RS H), Hyde Park (Moonchild REc.053) LP and ep (copy of Fuck Yer Ya Ya s Out), Stone s Classics 2LP (no label), Stones in the Park 2LP (050769), He is not Dead (TSP 015) in 1983,TV Guide (Glimmer Twins SFR 004), Hyde Park 1969 (TSP 023)2LP.

On compact Hyde Park 1969 (TSP CD 023-2) rel.in 95 in mono, Hyde Park 1969 (Vulture CD 003), Stones in the Park (Living Legend 032) stereo, Stones at the Park (WPOCM 0789 D 027-2), Drinking and Dancing (DTD 004), Hyde Park 69 (BonBon 844738-2), In The Park (Golden Standard SCRO 001), Stones in the Park (VGP 296) sbd 2 issues, the 2nd gold disc remastered, Highway to Heaven (DWP 007)from radio, In Memory of (Crazy Mama), , In the Park (Park 8) complete show in mono rel.2003, Hyde Park 1969 (SODD 015) rel.in 2006, Hyde Park (Bulldog 013. In 2013 together with British Venues 1976/Have You Seen Keef ? 2cds was offered a cdr as bonus called Hyde Park concert. In 2013 this concert came out on 2 cdrs as He Is Not Dead (All Sold Out 113) soon copied a Hyde Park legend (Goldplate 1303) that presented a comprehensive recollection of every bit and piece that has been released over the years from the famous Stones concert in Hyde Park in 1969. Scattered songs from this show have appeared also, for instance

Jumping Jack Flash came out on Old Grey Whistle Test(Contraband   CBM 3947), No Expectations on Beggars Breakfast (Mad Rec.MATV 09), Beggars Sessions(WPOCM 0289-D17-2), Megatrax vol.2 (Chapter One 25154), on Blue(S) tones (Luna 9315), Time Trip vol. 3(Scorpio 15/172 1), and on Decca Years vol.6 (WOPMCD 042; Mercy Mercy on Hawaiian Top(WG 025-6), Loving Cup on Taxile on Main Street(Town Rec.242HS), Midnight Rambler, Satisfaction and Sympathy for the Devil on Mick Jagger Interview Free Concert Hyde Park ep, Jumping Jack Flash,No Expectations. Sympathy for the Devil on Hot Stuff vol.1 (G.Dane GDR 9416),), Sympathy for the Devil on the vinyl ep Fuck Yer Ya Ya s Out ( ET 8302) split in 2 on each side , on From Now to Then /As time goes by(BMCD 028), 6 tracks appeared on Lips 2LP (Avon Rec.0892), Love You (RS 0892) 2LP, 4 tracks including the intro on the vinyl ep Brian Come Back You Bastard! (Glimmer Twin Rek. SFR 004), 6 tracks on Dancing with Mr.D (Starlight SL 87015),while on compact Jumping Jack Flash and Sympathy for the Devil on Rockstar in Concert (STEMRA 6117112), 4 tracks on Jumping Jack Flash (Alegra 9017),6 tracks on First Decade (Big Music BX 003) and on The RS Live (CDDV 5512). Lately on Brian Come Back You Bastard (DAC 164) we again got the WLIR 79 recording and stereo songs from the blu ray/DVD releases.

Disc One presents what Holland Radio Veronica broadcasted on July 15 th 1969 hosted by Lex Harding, this being most of the show that was recorded with a portable Sony recorder, including an interesting introduction speech by an MC which informs the audience on the events that will happen. Then we get all Jagger reading the Adonais poem by Shelley and I m Yours And I m Hers that starts with some distorted sound, soon corrected by the taper. Sound quality is hard to judge, Jagger s vocals re always upfront and clear, while the guitar and drums seem way in the back, Wyman s bass widely audible, but not distorted. It is interesting to hear in between songs Jagger comments, lost in all other previous recordings of this concert.

After Midnight Rambler there are3 alternate sources tracks of Adonais, Midnight Rambler and Love In Vain, where Wyman s bass is less conspicuous.

Disc Two of this set presents the WLIR 1979 radio show that happened on the 10th anniversary of Brian Jones death allegedly on July 5 th 1979 where Jo Bergman speaks about the facts that happened before the concert. This was just released on Brian Come Back You Bastard (DAC 164) but is here present with different songs order and in better sound coming from a lower generation source.

Packaging is not that inspirational offering a brown picture of Jagger on front cover which reminds the front cover of the vinyl boot of the same name by Contraband Records, which was red instead.
