REVIEW:

This is the second release from Empress Valley of the famous Stones Oakland 2nd show from 1969 but it is not a new pressing since the number 583 is the same. The excellent audience recording which became the most famous Stones bootleg called Liver Than You ll Ever Be and the Bill Graham soundboard broadcast of 6 tracks which was aired on 29 October 1972 by KSAN in San Francisco. The 6 tracks already came out on vinyl on a boot called Oakland Sixty Nine (Ruthless Rhymes 692) and on cd on Liver then you ll ever be (DAC 116) and Oakland Coliseum Arena (SODD 029). There is some hiss on the soundboard songs especially on the acoustic ones but the mix of sources does not disturb listening because of the exceptional high quality of the audience recording which prevents casual listeners to spot the difference in sources. The mix is very good between the two sources as the complete audience recording is used to supplement the missing soundboard parts like at the beginning of You Gotta Move. This release according to its cover has the original edit copy taken from source tapes. Packaging is certainly better than the previous one which had a RnR Circus shot.

Even within the Stones collectors camp there are some that try to collect all titles of a single concert and this is one that still attracts, despite almost 45 years; the sound in mono but it is still an enjoyable and classic performance.
