REVIEW: |
This new release
focus on the Stones Bridges to Babylon sessions including alternate versions
and outtakes mostly coming from the Fully Finished Outtakes release but also
official songs either in studio or live versions of songs from that period.
Contrary to all the previous volumes of this series there are no 2 cds
accompanying the set which is therefore just a vinyl release however a
particular one. Inside in fact there is a page addressed to the buyer informing
all collectors that here they will find one extra LP which is a mis-pressed
copy where Side A is correct, but Side B is the same as Side D. Apparently it
was discovered while assembling each individual boxset, but it was decided to
fill “a few dozens copies†with the extra album since some collectors are
completists, allegedly the first ones. Despite the fact that this is yet
another mistake this label has done after the World’s Greatest Rock n Roll Band
box which was also marred by a mis-pressed LP featuring another band. Side A begins
with the b side of Sain of Me, followed by the Don Was mix of Out of Control
live version, then start the outtakes, here Might As Well Get Juiced long
version and on Side B which contrary to the setlist starts with Flip The Witch sung
by Keith Richards followed by Too Tight, then Low Down short take and Saint of
Me. Side C has 20 Nil, the short version of Might As Well Get Juiced and
Desperate Man. Side D has sanctuary, Dream About, Prairie Love and the long
take of Low Down sung by Keith Richards. Side E and F instead have unauthorized
mixes, on the first one: Flip The Switch (Bootleg Hyper mix), Gunface (Bootleg
Dodge) and Already Over Me (Bootleg Ambient Mix). On Side F there are just two
tracks: Already Suffering (Bootleg Sentimental Remix) and Anybody Seen My Bay
(Bootleg Original Mix). Despite the mix up with the mis-pressed LP and Sude B
mess up, this is a nice release and the more I hear those Bridges to Babylon
leftover the more I marvel, wondering why they had not been officially released.
