REVIEW:

This no label release presents again the London 8th September 73 1st show but in the title is added the word Upgrade. This famous 1st show surfaced some years ago with a complete version of Gimme Shelter which had already been released on Nasty Songs (DAC 065) copy of London 8th September 1973 Early Show (Devil’s Breath DB002).

The first show from the 8th was also released as European Tour 1973 (TMQ RS 561), as part of The Complete London Tapes (SOS 730907-8-9) 4 cdrs, London 73 (Shaved Discs Trash 03), Touring History vol.4 (Bad Wizard 8973) then Belladonna on a Toussaint Night (Sister Morphine 31), Timeless 73 (VGP 373), Wembley High Rollers (Halcyon 2006). Then some years later Empire Pool 73 (SODD 055) replicated the first London 8th September excellent show together with the last concert of September 9th as bonus cdr. This show has also come out as Comeback To London (SODD 084-5) and as part of Tour 1973 (WLR 2135) 13 discs box, however the best version has always been Come Back To England (DAC 073). The sound of the first show is quite brilliant and at the correct speed possibly showing the better compromise between boosted trebles and booming bass sounds without changing too much the original sound. Here we have another remaster by Mike B. who has worked on the main flaw at the beginning of Honky Tonk Women which is 1.5 longer having used a lesser quality but longer source to have the most complete version while preserving the original recording clarity as far as possible. Just some months ago another release bearing the same name came out, however this is slightly better and the covers different.
