REVIEW:

It has been thought a good idea to collect all available versions of Mick Jagger's collaboration with Peter Tosh and his band in 1978. To make the project more comprehensive, it was decided to present all the versions of this collaboration that have not been officially released.

Don’t Look Back, originally a song from The Temptation, was written by William ‘Smokey’ Robinson and Ronald White. Producers were Peter Tosh and Robert Shakespeare, Sound engineer Karl Pitterson. Executive producers: The Glimmer Twins.

- Don't Look Back I with MJ on vocals; Bush Doctor-version
- Don't Look Back II with MJ on vocals; long version
- Don't Look Back III with MJ on vocals; dub version (aka Don't Space Out)

These 3 officially released disc versions are absent from this volume.

Here Part I features the Stones Woodstock Rehearsals for the upcoming US tour. Additional musicians: Bernard Harvey on piano, organ until early June, Ian McLagan on piano, organ, backing vocals from 7 June onwards. Both channels have been rebalanced (+20% to the left channel) and de-clicked. Part II has the Live performances: The line-up was: Mick Jagger on vocals except on the 1st track, Peter Tosh on guitar and vocals, Robbie Shakespeare on bass, Sly Dunbar on drums, Mikey Chung on guitar and Robert Lyn on keyboards. Track 5 is from Lexington, Kentucky’s Rupp Arena: Although it does not follow the chronology, it was decided to include this version to which Mick Jagger does not participate, because it was the reference used for the following tracks. It comes from Kentucky Fried Rockers’ (Kisses Deluxe).Track 6 is from New York’s Palladium:
The same source was used on ‘New York City 78’, ‘The New Palladium’ and on the Exile Records version (EXM 005A./B). Only this last one is lossless. The best sound came by merging the Exile version on the right channel with the New Palladium’ version on the left channel. For the speed the Lexington version was used as reference.Track 7 comes from Hampton, Virginia’s Coliseum: This recording appears on ‘Hampton Hellraisers’ (Rockin’ Rott): it’s an incomplete lossless recording and its beginning is missing. Track 8 comes from Myrtle Beach’s Convention Center: This recording appears on “Myrtle Beach’78”: it’s an incomplete lossless recording. Since it was running too fast, it has been decelerated by -2,5% and the azimuth upgraded. Track 9 comes from St. Paul, Minnesota’s Civic Center Arenam while Tracks 10 & 11 come from St. Louis, Missouri’s Kiel Opera House: The same recording appeared as St. Louis on Satisfaction Guaranteed and Let Them Burn Your Town (Rockin’ Rott) or as Oakland on From Lakeland To Oakland (Red Devil), Handsome Girls (Dandelion) and Handsome Girls And Some Wives (OMS). The more probable origin is St. Louis though. Here is offered a version coming from a vinyl rip decelerated by -1,1% and a merged version with Handsome Girls on the left channel and From Lakeland To Oakland on the right channel. Part III has the Promofilm, here the line-up consisted of: Mick Jagger on vocals, Peter Tosh on guitar and vocals, Mikey Chung on guitar, Sly Dunbar on drums, Robbie Shakespeare on bass and Robert Lyn on keyboards, note that there are new vocals on prepared backing track
Part IV comes from Saturday Night Live: The line-up here was same as above with the addition of Lou Marini on sax, Alan Rubin on trumpet, Tom Malone on trombone from the Blues Brothers fame & three female backing singers. It has been
added as intro a speech from Jagger celebrating the Peter Tosh museum in Kingston, then comes a merge from two lossless sources. The intro comes from ZitRock’s DVD Mick Jagger Through The Years (ZR DVD MJ 21-03).
