| REVIEW: |
This
compilation of Bridges to Babylon outtakes was worked by Cpt. Acid some time
ago (APCD 082) and Empress Valley just decided to put it out. Blessed Poison
was in fact the working title for the Bridges to Babylon album. Some files were
used before when remastering Chronological Fully Finished Studio Outtakes, but
more work was done on those files, mostly with iZotope RX 10 Spectral Repair
and also applying new equalization presenting now the Bridges to Babylon tracks
that surfaced on Fully Finished Outtakes all together with some previously
liberated ones from the same sessions. In detail, Out Of Control is the basic
take early mix with early vocals and instrumental overdubs, while Too Tight
first take has an additional fiddle and Keith Richards on vocals, just like the
2 versions of Lowdown (the second featuring an overdubbed mandolin) and the
first take of Flip The Switch. The first take of Might As Well Get Juiced has
an harmonica coming in at the end and is called ‘clean version’, while the
second take is shorter and doesn’t have it, named ‘produced’ version. Saint Of
Me first take is an early version with programmed drums. From a creative point
of view it is hard to understand why these takes were not considered worthy of
being released, especially since the band had fans wait for 8 years for the
studio follow up, A Bigger Bang, maybe there has been one of the famous
disagreements between the Glimmer Twins. The sound here is a bit richer than
before, but that just prompts the desire to listen to these tracks in a fully
lossless format, which is not the case here; however, this remains the best
sounding version for these outtakes.
