REVIEW: |
This release
from presents the famous 1972 Charlotte recording. This show was first released
on tape as Charlotte 1972 and Charlotte 1972 Going Back To The Roots, then was made
available as Bring It Back Alive on multicoloured vinyl (K&S Records 003
and IMP
1112) on vinyl and as Drippin’
Honey (Concert Series 7672), Rehearsal Sessions 1972 Tour (Contra Band
Winsconsin Cheese Rec. 3690, American Tour in L.A. (11 songs), Live in Detroit
(OB81 KYOTO). O
n compact Bring It Back Alive (VGP 054) and Drippin’ Honey (VGP 294), with
Rocks Off released on Very Ancient, Thank You Kindly (Scorpio 30), Rocks Off in
Charlotte (Phoenix D350706) which had 14 songs and then Going Back To 1972 (SODD
054) together with the Long Beach concert on bonus cdr. Shall also be mentioned
Going Back To The Roots (DAC 102), Back From 1972 (Power Stick Prod.901502), Going
Back To The Roots (Scorpio POW 901502) and Sweet Charlotte (Exile 2006EXA001).
This show is here presented having been remastered the well-known source that
came out some years ago in the collectors’ market. This version opens up with a
cut in Bitch that is followed by Rocks Off and during these two first songs the
tape seems to be going fine, while on previous versions it lacked fidelity
although soon recovered to the open sound that encompasses many other
recordings of the same tour. The performance is shining too with the band at
its top during the extended versions of Love In Vain and You Can t Always Get
What You Want with special notice for Midnight Rambler also cut in at the
beginning missing bits from the famous intro. Some people have called this show
an average Taylor performance, but just listen to the blistering solo on Gimme
Shelter to rectify that impression but even if there are no extra frills he
still came up with wonderful and powerful licks like the long slide solos
during All Down The Line. This is a nice improvement, however until the whole
show will surface, this cannot be called the definitive version of this show.
