REVIEW:

This release from Mayflower presents both shows from the Stones in Frankfurt stop in 1973. It presents an excellent source with regards to the paper sleeve recordings that came out years ago as 1973 European Tour (Palladium) as well as Frankfurt Tape (For Fans Only 04). There is some tape deterioration though, especially on Rip This Joint on the first show but Gimme Shelter does not fades in or out.

Both Frankfurt concerts came out at first on Stone Crazy that released them as The Frankfurt Tapes (SC 002), the first concert was featured on VGP as Guten Abend Frankfurt (VGP 266) and 1973 European Tour (Palladium), later Pignose presented both as The Remastered Frankfurt Tapes 1973 (PGN 090). Some years ago both shows were issued as Listen To This Wilhelm II (Tarantura TCDRS 24-25).

The second Frankfurt show came out too Back to the Graveyard (DAC 113) and on The Frankfurt Tape (For Fans Only 004). On the second show too there is some tape deterioration with lesser bright sound during Gimme Shelter and Dancing With Mr.D and on this song Jagger calls Keith Richards name before the latter guitar solo (only time I recall that happened). There is a tape flip right before Honky Tonk Women.

Both shows are here in very good sound, although in mono, and this release presents both concerts as a quite nice upgrade. Street Fighting Man from the second of these concerts was released on DVD as Through the Past Darkly, Sucking in the 70s and 80s (Apocalypse Sound 164) on video and as a DVD-R bonus of 1973 European Tour (SODD 081). Since it is a soundboard recording the song appeared on Back to the Graveyard from OBR (458 CD 030), Reflections of a Stone Alone (VGP 043), The Stars in the Sky They Never Lie (M.Beat 141) and Down in the Graveyard (OBR 93007) in better sound. 3 songs re available on Tour 1973 13 discs and 1 DVD (WLR 2135). This is a goof sounding release that, however, does not add much to previous ones of the same type.
