REVIEW:

This release is a copy of Glyn Johns Master Reels which in turn was the exact copy of Auction Masters, a compilation sourced from the original Glyn Johns masters, published by JBL awhile ago and reviewed here, which showcased many well known Stones outtakes that over the years have been released in the underground market on vinyl or cd, however coming from high generation recordings. Hence these are said to come all from Glyn Johns Master Reels which represent the original source. From the accompanying booklet: “The Stones Golden Era could be underlined in four ways: 1) By the change in the political temperature towards the end of the Sixties, 2) By the media that drubbed the Satanic Majesties album unimaginative, tuneless and derivative comparing it with Sgt. Pepper, 3) By the dismissal of Brian Jones and consequent employment of Mick Taylor and 4) By the fact that the production duties were shared between Glyn Johns and Jimmy Miller. Add to that the Stones stripping down their sound on Let It Bleed as they did on Beggars Banquet and the transformation of Jagger to a demonic Mephistopheles demonic character. Another stripped back album was Sticky Fingers with Taylor’s guitar magic that became a tighter glue for the band; Exile was recorded in the mouldy basement with the band that kept its vampiristic lifestyle, sleeping at daytime and recording at night for what turned out to be the most hedonistic and debauched release.

This is however a great release, which also presents the correct recording dates on the inner cover, including Loving Cup which coming from the Exile remaster 2010; for some reason however this compilation lasts 12 seconds less than the one released by Mayflower label. Packaging is excellent and tasty, offering an obituary of Jimmy Miller inside, written in 1994 when the 52 years old producer died.
