Here we are
again with the Stones first concert in Paris in 1970 which is undoubtedly the
best sounding one and the subject of this release. Contrary to Cpt Acid’s
treatment in this Graf Zeppelin ‘s version the original mono has been restored,
presenting a more natural sound with less prominent noise, including the
wavering sounds from Little Queenie onwards with no distortion; here it has
been replaced with a different source which blends very well with this source.
Concerning the first track that features B,Guy and J.Wells plus Eric Clapton
this is a new source, 20 seconds longer which helps defining this release the
definitive version of this show so far, being much easier to listen to
especially the second part of the concert. Also the gap between songs before
Little Queenie is now longer and the radio announcement after the show’s end is
included
(2 seconds longer than before)
which makes this the most complete version; audio instability at the beginning
of Love In Vain has been corrected and 2 skips during Little Queenie fixed
using a patch; overall mid-range frequencies have been boosted with pitch and
frequency response corrected.
The first of
the three 1970 Paris shows was released as Paris 1970 (IMP 014) -even if the
back cover says 23 September- released in 1993 in 500 copies; then came
Paris Affair (VGP-127) in 1997; another full release of this show has been The
Return Of Marquis De Sade (Mid Valley 511) that presented also an opening track
by support act Buddy Guy and Junior Wells featuring Eric Clapton. The Stones
first show is also featured on Violent Night In Paris (cdr) and then in January
2014 came out Pleased To Meet You Bianca, Hope You Guess My Name (APCD 025) which
is a remaster by Cpt. Acid’s of VGP Paris Affair with some equalizing that tried
to give more life to the mono soundboard; the reason for that title is that it
was on this date that Mick was introduced to Bianca who will become his wife
the following year. It was then remastered in 32 bits by Tarantura on Europe 1
(TCDRS37). In 2015 was released Live From The Radio Paris 1970 (Goldplate 1502
CD 1-2) that offered also the 23 September recording. In 2021 it was released
on vinyl Let The Airwaves Flow Vol.5: Paris 1970 (1960s Rec. R&B59) and
finally in 2023 on European Tour 1970-71 (WLR Hermetic Society 701) 20 discs
box. Some songs came out on other boots like Roll Over Beethoven on Play with
fire (TMOQ Smoking Pig 118-003) and on Lord Have Mercy (Contra Band WEC 3948)
and on compact on Paris Olympia 1970 (cdr), Get Your Leeds Lungs Out (Mighty
Diamonds 2004); Sympathy for The Devil can be found on From The Vault (VGP 100).
Lately it has been released as Paris When It Fizzles (Mayflower 300) which
presented a nice recording, however marred by the voice of the radio commenter
who often keeps on talking when the songs have begun.
