REVIEW: |
This new
release presents both Stones Frankfurt 73 concerts. The first concert came out at
first on The Frankfurt Tapes 1973 (Stone Crazy 002-1/2) in 1994, then on Guten
Abend Frankfurt (VGP 266) in 2001, then on Frankfurt Tapes 1973 (Pignose PGN 090)
together with the second show in 2006, like on Listen to this Wilhelm II
(Tarantura TCDRS 24-25) in 2013. The second concert came out on The Frankfurt
Tapes (Stone Crazy 002-1/2) set that had both shows later remastered by Pignose
as The Remastered Frankfurt Tapes 1973 (PGN 090); VGP released Guten Abend
Frankfurt that contained both shows as audience recordings as well while Street
Fighting Man soundboard track was released by OBR on Back in the Graveyard (458),
Reflections of A Stone Alone (VGP 043) and The Stars In The Sky They Never Lie
(Midnight Beat 141) coming from a German TV broadcast of the song. It was then
Frankfurt Tape 1973 (For Fans Only 004) that came from a new source that had a
spectacular sound leaning on Taylor’s side maintaining a high quality level. Other
releases that featured Street Fighting Man in soundboard quality have been Back
to the Graveyard (DAC 113), Down in the Graveyard (OBR 93007) that despite
looking like the German label came from Japan and on Tour 1973 (WLR 2135) 13 cd
set. This release is said to presents recordings coming from master reels, the
first show starts with a really narrow stereo recording that improves with time
though. The second concert source is the same as the one that appeared on the cd
For Fans Only, hence excellent with clear Taylor guitar, making this one of the
best recorded gig in the whole 1973 tours as far as audience tapes are
concerned.
