REVIEW:

Here we have some outtakes & alternates from It's Only Rock'n'Roll and Goat's Head Soup albums from 1972-1974, coming from a silver disc which have been phase and level corrected with some very gentle equalization applied. Track by track:

It's Only Rock 'N' Roll is the rough mix, Ain't Too Proud To Beg the alternate mix like Winter and Silver Train from Island Studios where some mixing and overdubs for the album Goat’s Head Soup were done, partially without Keith Richards. Then comes Drift Away a well-known unreleased song, followed by Time Waits For No One long version. At the time of this release Criss Cross Man was unreleased, next comes Through The Lonely Nights which was released in 1974 as b-side. Living In The Heart Of Love was unreleased too then, just like Too Many Cooks which later came out officially on The Very Best Of Mick Jagger version. This track was produced by John Lennon, the line-up being: John Lennon on guitar, Jesse Ed Davis on guitar, Danny Kortchmar on guitar, Al Kooper on keyboards, Jim Keltner on drums, Bobby Keys on sax, Trevor Lawrence on sax, Jack Bruce on bass, Bruce Gary on drums, Mike Finnegan on keyboards, Wolfgang Metz on bass, Rocky Djubano on percussions, Harry Nilsson & some unidentified girls on backing vocals. Next comes Angie rough mix without reverb & with a 2nd keyboard overdub, Dance Little Sister alternate mix like Till The Next Goodbye and If You Can't Rock Me. Finally Fingerprint File alternate longer mix closes the compilation. Some observations:

As usual, all info was taken from Nico Zentgraf ( http://www.nzentgraf.de/books/tcw/works1.htm), not from the back cover of the cd, which by the way, was not 100% accurate, for instance:

1. Tracks 1, 2, 5, 6, 12, 13, 14, 15 were not recorded at Musicland Studios, Munich, April 1974 like the back cover said, and some sites repeated.

2. On April 1974, the Stones were in England (Newbury & London), not in Munich.

3. The Stones were in Munich on January (14th - 28th) recording early versions and primitive takes of Dance Little Sister, Drift Away, If You Really Want To Be My Friend, Living In The Heart Of Love, Luxury, Till The Next Goodbye, Time Waits For No One, Labour Swing, but I don't think any of the cd tracks are early versions or primitive takes.

4. The Stones were again in Munich on December (7th - 15th) without Mick Taylor, but they did not play any of the tracks from this cd. In fact, they played Act Together, Cherry Oh Baby, Fool To Cry, I Got A Letter.

5. Tracks 1, 2, 5, 6, 12, 13, 14, 15 were recorded at Newbury, England, Stargroves at Mick Jagger’s house with the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio (1974, April 10th - 15th) and in London, at Island’s Recording Studios (1974, May 20th - 25th).

Note: Officially Mick Taylor left the Rolling Stones on December 12, 1974. This is a very nice compilation with famous alternates.
