The
Stones came back to Milan after 16 years and provided a show to remember in
many ways; first the line-up was different than on any other 2022 Tour date
since besides Mick Jagger on vocals, guitar and harmonica, Keith Richards on guitar
and backing vocals, Ron Wood on guitar, Steve Jordan on drums, Darryl Jones on bass
and backing vocals, Chuck Leavell on keyboards, backing vocals and percussions,
Bernard Fowler on backing vocals and percussions,Tim Ries and Karl Denson on sax,
Matt Clifford on keyboards, percussions and French horn we got as special guest
Chanel Haynes on vocals on Gimme Shelter and Amy Keys, Kamilah Marshall &
Kenna Ramsey on backing vocals all over. The latter three ladies were borrowed from
the support band, the Ghost Hounds, appearing for the first time on Tumbling
Dice and provided a back-up work stronger than usual, at times even submerging
Jagger vocals in intensity. As of today, it is still unknown the real reason
Sasha Allen was not present on that date, some people mentioned Covid which
affected Jagger too, other passport problem, the fact is that on this gig we
were exposed to the great Chanel Haynes whose performance on Gimme Shelter was
truly remarkable. It was revealed some days later that she lost her job in the
Tina musical due to her appearance on this concert, but it seems the Stones
used her services again in their new album as compensation. Other songs were
different too, for instance on half of Miss You Keith Richards was off stage whatever
the reason; this show also saw the tour debut for Dead Flowers and Wild Horses,
a country couple hardly heard live together these days. Concerning this
recording, it must have been hard
to het it due to the location in the middle of the ramping crowd. Here the
songs have been edited, the covers created and the beginning and end of each
disc upgraded in order to create two cdrs. It is not the perfect rendition of a
live Stones document, but still the only lossless version that has appeared so
far.
