This release presents
the Stones 2002 warm up gig including the rehearsals for the first time on cd;
it all happened in Toronto at the Palais Royale, stuff that circulated on DVD when
the video recordings leaked. Therefore we first have to remember Palais Royale
2002 that also featured some rehearsal tracks (Exile
Vol.1/Vol. 2) that also featured a
documentary (Streets of Toronto), Three Flicks (No Label),Live Licks Special
2002 (Stoneage V300), Toronto Palais Royale (RS 01-2); on compact this show was
releases as soundboard at first on cdr as Secret Licks Night in Toronto, then
on Rock & Royalty (Pignose 007) Live Licks (RS 3), Ticks & Sold Out,
Clubbing in Toronto (RS 16082002), Rock the Palais (Phoenix 03), on silver on Can’t
You Hear Me Knocking (VGP 319), Hot Stuff @ Palais Royale (Morph 23), Fifteen
Kicks (Banana Rec. RS 160902), Secret Gig (RSTO 02), Palais Royale Ballroom,
Palais Royale Toronto Canada 2002 (HEN 050),
The Royale Treatment (Phoenix 0356495), Toronto Soundboard 2003 (No Label)
and officially on Live Licks. 2 songs are on Get Licked From The Mixing Desk
(Pignose 015), 8 songs came out on Get Licked Around the World (Exile 039 A/B) and
4 on Touring Band 2002 (Godfather Rec.08/09) these latter ones in audience
quality. Torn And Frayed is on he Real Alternate Album Exile On Main St. (RTR
014) 6 LP, 4 cd box. This show is also on Licks 2002 US Canada Tour The Theater
Shows Pt.1 (WLR R-204) 13 discs box. This concert is a remarkable set of first
time live played songs (Torn and Frayed, Can’t Turn You Loose, Can’t You Hear
Me Knocking and of course Don’t Stop and the rarely played Heart Of Stone)
which can really be dug in this great recording with emphasis on the brass
section. The sound output is fantastic and packaging is nice too. Unfortunately
the label decided not to edit what came out on the DVDs, that may have a sense
while watching but not when only hearing, so there is lots of dead air on Disc
Two. |
