REVIEW:

Here we have WLR version of the newly released outtakes that appeared in Europe from March 2021 onwards. The 50 outtakes coming from the Fully Finished Outtakes set are copied from the Chronological Order Captain Acid version. Disc One presents the 67-77 tracks with some addition, in fact, just like Silver Lining (DAC 206) the Japan Goat’s Head Soup Deluxe bonus tracks with the Glyn Johns mix have been added to Criss Cross but there is also Scarlet official take that features Jimmy Page overdubbed solo. Disc Two spans from 1977 through 1982 offering lots of finished songs, many of which are difficult to understand why have been left unreleased officially. Disc Three reaches the 93 sessions that gave birth to the Voodoo Lounge album through the 85 and 89 sessions; notable here the inclusion of Love Is Strong which was not on the Fully Finished Outtakes set, here with an organ on the outro, it came out in September 2019. On Disc Four there are the Bridges to Babylon outtakes that are supplemented by some of the 7 tracks that came out right after on the so called Vini Karslake tape; as bonus tracks 2 versions of Living In A Ghost Town and Jagger/Grohl Easy Sleazy, unfortunately a bit saturated as sound output. It must be also noted that, whatever the reason, 2 songs from the original Fully Finished Outtakes are not included here (Extreme Western Grip and Well Well Well). Disc Five is the copy of Auction Masters, already reviewed here, that was also used for Glyn Johns Master Reels. Disc Six presents the Top of the Pops compilation out of IORR which offers these broadcasts in great sound, in particular: Let’s Spend the Night Together has here the announcer Jimmy Saville (Ruby Tuesday from the same broadcast did not have live vocals), just like Jumping Jack Flash which also features a Jagger & Jones Brian Matthews interview that was put on a BBC transcription disc; funny that Jones admits that JJ Flash is similar to Satisfaction. Next come the 2 different versions of Honky Tonk Women that feature live vocals on a prepared backing track, then version 3 which is a version of the 2nd take with fade out and version 4 that has Brian Matthews at the beginning and end of the song, the latter two from different re-broadcasts. The 1971 tracks have again live vocals on prepared backing tracks featuring Trevor Lawrence on sax (Brown Sugar) and trumpet (Bitch). Brown Sugar has studio comments at the beginning and end; interesting and rare is Wild Horses that unfortunatey is not available on video, but thankfully can be heard here, a version that appears here for the first time on a silver bootleg. The disc ends with the audio part from the Voodoo Lounge cd rom. Disc Seven has another Stones message board catch: this time the audio of many promo videos that featured live vocals over prerecorded music. All in all this is a nice compilation that features goodies that may have escaped collectors in silver format; packaging is good but the front cover (and discs) photo us really ugly.
