REVIEW: |
This
release by DAC presents on the first disc the Stones first 1969 Madison Square
Garden night from a matrix combining the mono soundboard liberated by Abkco in
late 2019 and the mono audience recording taken from Broadway (DAC 092), this being
just a copy of Madison Square Garden 1969 First Night (Cpt. Acid Project 059) by
Falo & Cpt. Acid that came out in December 2020, already reviewed here.
Why did it take so log to DAC to release it is
a mystery, however the distortion on Wyman’s bass on Stray Cat Blues had been somehow
mitigated, but still audible at the beginning of Under My Thumb as well as the
occasional pop coming from the Abkco soundboard.
On Disc Two
we have 10 songs from the Hyde Park concert 69 in stereo remixed, these come
from the official blu ray having been speed corrected since ran too slow on the
official release (somebody suggested because it was filmed at 25 frames per
second and played back at 24, therefore it was about 4% slower. Down Home Girl,
which unfortunately does not exist as soundboard recording, is missing. On I’m
Free there is still talking over, unfortunately, as well as at the end of
Midnight Rambler, this time after music stopped though.
The bonus
tracks also appeared on a Stones message board, being Top of the Pops songs through
the years with the notable inclusion of Wild Horses for the first time on
silver disc, these too having been speed corrected and de-hissed.
