REVIEW: |
This DVD came out in August of this year from one of those labels that are often identified as grey area ones. Let's see: it is available in shops and online (amazon) as if it is an official release and it also presents lots of features that makes it look like an official product. But it is not, the label did produce Mick Taylor Little Red Rooster last year (just copying an Hungarian soundboard that came out slightly before) and now presents this concert film. The fact is that the performance came out officially as a 60 minutes video called Blues Alive in 1984 by RCA but this version presents the whole set, including one extra song from Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, one by Albert King and a great 17 minutes final jam. The concert was a John Mayall showroom for his Return of the Bluesbreakers tour that presented the original Mick Taylor line up together with John McVie on bass and Colin Allen on drums. The concert has many a guests appearing apart from the aforementioned ones there are also Etta James, Sippie Wallace and Hubert Sumlin on harp. The great guitarists of electric blues Buddy Guy and Albert king share the stage with marvellous solos, matched by
Taylor whose slide solo prompts nods of approvement during the long jam that is one of the highlights of the concert where Guy,King and Taylor exchange fiery guitar solos that excite the audience. A great video that should have probably been released officially much before.
