REVIEW: |
This
compilation was nice but few things needed to be fixed, so phase and level
correction were applied as well as a new equalization. Tracks taken from lossy
sources are: Disc One n. 14, 17, Disc Two 5, 7, 8, 10 and 19 (the job was done
using spectral recovery iZotope RX 10 on those, to make them sound a bit
better). From the original info for this Pink Panther Records Special Edition: in
memory of Charlie and now Shirley Watts, Charlie's drumming here is exceptional
and clear. Ernie Watts plays sax here with a very good effect since Bobby Keys
was unavailable.
This is a compilation
of US concerts tracks from September to December 1981, with the best available
stereo recording of each song played; the sequence of songs is as per the
various concerts but the setlist evolved over this long tour. Incredible sound
for 41 years old live recordings, all songs have been individually equalized to
get consistent volume, avoiding all official releases. Here there is an
absolutely epic ten minutes version of You Can't Always Get What You Want from
Pontiac, while the worst song is probably Shattered; the best unexpected songs:
Tops, Down The Road Apiece and Mona; it is hard to trace the origins of these
tracks - almost certainly many soundboards recorded by Bill Graham surfaced
through Wolfgang's Vault; the exception is Tempe which was a Rolling Stones
Records soundboard mix which surfaced with the Art Collins tapes. This is a
very nice compilation with just one drawback, both discs are over 80 minutes,
so in order to burn them you must get rid of something not essential.
