REVIEW: |
Waiting for
the promised official release here is another version of the Stones Paris
Abattoirs 76 last show. At first it was released on vinyl album as Paris Par
Excellence (Devils Disciples 76 PP) with this same title as Stones a Les
Abattoirs (Cpt Crochet Rec. AS 054), then as Vive La France 3 LP (ARC 3001), but
also as Hosts Tuff (WAR 1001) and as part of From San Francisco to Paris 2 LP (Toasted
Rec. 2S 290), Cherry Oh Baby 5 LP (01-505). On compact disc it has been
released as Vive La France
(SODD 009-010) and Paris Par Excellence (VGP 147) incomplete, later as Europe
76 (VGP 056) which also featured Fingerprint File from Toronto, then later as
French Made 1976 (VGP 258) in mono soundboard. Anyway, the last show in Paris
also was released as Live in Paris (Golden Stars 2096) as complete audience
recording and again as Vive La
France (King Snake Records 006). After some time it
resurfaced as From Paris to San Francisco (VGP 276) sourced from vinyl. A
soundboard recording came out first as Exile in Paris (PGN 122) part of an 8 cdr,
Down and Out in Paris (Rattlesnake 066-67) offering a complete stereo recording
of the concert in soundboard with audience songs to fill up missing ones (You
Can’t Always Get What You Want and Street Fighting Man) and again as Paris Par
Excellence (SODD 067-68), Vive La
France (VGP 350) before being released with the same title coming
from a new discovered audience tape (SODD 115-117) on a 2 disc plus 1 cdr set. However,
some songs, mostly Billy Preston’s, were always missing in soundboard. Later
releases include Europe 76 (DAC 087) 4 cd set including both audience and
soundboard recordings, Les Loups Dans L’Abattoir- The Complete 1976 Paris Tapes
8 discs (Godfather Rec. Box 20), Tour of Europe 76 (WLR 2134) 12 discs and 1 DVD
box.
Tracks from
this concert can be found on Pavillon De Paris (DAC 046), We Hope You Like This
One (VGP 235), Tour Of Europe 76 Revisited (Godfather Rec. 227-78), French Made
(DAC 009), Live in Paris 1976 (Goldplate 1501) 2 DVD + 2cd set, Love You Live
Mixes 2016 (IMP-N-026) and Paris 1976 (no label) that cane out in 2019 in
Japan.
This
release was taken from Paris Par Excellence (VGP 147) and features a remaster
of those tracks plus some coming from Europe 76 (DAC 087): Angie, Nothing From
Nothing and the second half of You Can’t Always Get What You Want. The sound is
very nice and well balanced, of course the patch in You Can’t Always Gey What
You Want is easily discernible, but that doesn’t affect the overall sound
output.
